Technical News Office – Airtel users will soon enjoy better and super-fast 5G connectivity. Sunil Bharti Mittal’s company will sign a multi-billion dollar agreement with Finland’s Nokia to expand its 5G network. According to the report, after Ericsson, Nokia may also expand the 5G network in India in collaboration with Airtel. Earlier, at the India Mobile Congress 2024, Sunil Mittal had confirmed that Airtel has partnered with Swedish company Ericsson for 5G devices.
Airtel to purchase 5G hardware
Telecom companies Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea are spending millions of dollars to upgrade 5G networks in the world’s second-largest smartphone market, according to a Reuters report. Indian telecom operators mainly deal with Nokia and Ericsson for network upgrades. According to the report, Airtel’s deal with Nokia is for large-scale mobile radio equipment, which will upgrade the existing network to advance 5G with low power consumption.
As of now, no official announcement has been made by Nokia and Airtel regarding this deal. According to Reuters, some industry sources gave this information. Another report is emerging which claims that apart from Nokia and Ericsson, Airtel is also in talks with South Korean company Samsung to purchase 5G equipment.
Better connectivity for Airtel users
Airtel, the second largest telecom company in the country, currently has 38 million users. The company has extended the 5G network to almost all districts of the country. With 4G, Airtel is the first company to launch 5G service in the country. In October 2022, the company launched Airtel 5G Plus for the first time in 8 cities across the country. After that, in the next 6 months, Airtel’s 5G Plus service reached all major cities in the country. Besides Jio, only Airtel currently provides 5G service in the country.
