In fact, YouTube announced its partnership with e-commerce sites Flipkart and Myntra to allow content creators in India to tag products from brands other than their own in their videos, so their audience can purchase them. Until now, YouTube in India only allowed creators to sell their products by linking their online store to their channel. This new offer is part of the recently launched YouTube Shopping affiliate program, which is open to eligible YouTubers in the country.

Viewers can see information about the tagged product in the video description section and the “Product” section. On clicking on a product, viewers will be directly redirected to the product catalog page on Flipkart or Myntra, where they can complete the purchase. Citing the India e-Economy report, the company said that over 65% of customers in Indian metro cities and 85% of customers in Tier 2 cities trust YouTube creators more than traditional celebrities.

How will tagged products appear on YouTube?
Creators eligible for this feature can tag products in Shorts and also pin them during live streams. They also have the possibility of tagging products already available on the platform in their videos. Aside from mobile devices and desktops, YouTube said viewers will also be able to purchase these products through their smart TVs. The company said YouTube views on smart TVs in India have increased 4x over the last three years.
