Technical News Office – Many new features have been integrated into direct messages (DM) in the popular social media app Instagram, owned by Meta. The platform gave information about these features on Monday and indicated that users can now give nicknames to their friends in DM. Apart from this, like on Snapchat, users now have the option to share their location within the app. This way they will be able to share their location and will be easily contacted.
Instagram provided information about the new features via a blog post and explained how they would work. The platform said users now have the option to personalize the direct message section and can keep a nickname if they wish. To keep a friend’s or user’s nickname, tap on their profile in chat and users will have the option to keep or change the nickname.
Only selected people will be able to modify the nickname
Users will be able to decide for themselves who can change nicknames and who cannot. They must choose between three options: everyone in this chat, people you follow, and only you. Keep in mind that nicknames will only appear in the Direct Messages section of Instagram and will not affect usernames elsewhere in the app. The new feature is available on Android and iOS platforms.
Location sharing has also become easier now
The Instagram app now also offers the ability to share one’s location and, just like the Snapchat app’s Snap Map feature, users will be able to share their live location with others for up to an hour. The location will no longer be accessible after this time. Additionally, if users want to mark a location on the map, they will also have the option to pin it. The feature will be available for one-on-one and group chats and has been rolled out in select countries.
Apart from the features mentioned above, the social media app has also added 17 new sticker packs and users will now have the option to send over 300 new stickers in direct messages. If they want, they can mark stickers as favorites and even reuse stickers sent by friends.
