Scammers are cheating people for thousands of rupees through Digital Arrest, do you know what this problem is and how to protect yourself from it?

Technical News Office –There are millions of internet users in India, but they are not very aware about cybersecurity and hence they can easily become victims of fraud and cheating. Nowadays, digital arrest scams have increased rapidly and victims are being cheated out of thousands of rupees. People are constantly alerted to these scams, but such cases continue to come to light every day. Let us tell you about the digital arrest scam.

What is digital arrest?
In cyber scams, fraudsters often make calls or video calls posing as police or CBI, narcotics or Reserve Bank officials. The fake police officers then pretend that something bad has happened or is about to happen to a member of their family and they will be arrested. In this way, people get nervous after seeing the agent on a video call and start obeying him out of fear. After that, the victim transfers the money several times at the request of the other person.

This is how the digital arrest scam happens
First, a call or video call comes from an unknown number and the caller introduces himself as an officer or police officer. The victim is informed that one of their relatives or close friends is involved in money laundering, drugs or other matters. The victim is asked not to tell anyone and to stay in communication. In such a situation, the victim feels that the police are questioning him and that legal proceedings are underway. The background of the video call also looks like a government office or police station and the visible person also looks like an officer. The victim is informed that if they pay the stated amount, the case will be closed and no arrests will be made. Often people fall into this trap and give money to thugs to save themselves or their loved ones.

This is the way to avoid digital arrest
Police officers never give information about their arrest via video call or ask to download any apps. Apart from this, no copies of ID, arrest warrant or FIR are shared online. Additionally, no statement is recorded on the call and no amount is transferred. Apart from this, the law does not provide for any digital arrest and you can disconnect any call whenever you want.
