Indeed, the government has asked to pay particular attention to calls from these numbers and to file a complaint immediately in the event of suspicion of fraud. You can file a complaint against these calls through the Sanchar Sathi portal, which will allow the government to block these numbers.
Asking for money pretending to be a government official
Recently, a 25-year-old student also fell victim to the “digital arrest” scam. The caller identified himself as a government official and said that “a complaint has been registered on your phone number.” After that, he demanded money by threatening “digital arrest.” The student became nervous and shared all his bank details, after which the money was withdrawn from his account.
So how to avoid this scam?
Be careful when receiving calls from unknown international numbers.
Do not share your bank details, OTP or personal information under any circumstances.
If you are a victim of fraud, report it immediately on Sanchar Sathi portal or Cyber Crime Helpline 1930.
Don’t be afraid of false threats and ignore false claims like “digital arrest.”
