New typing indicator in WhatsApp
Meta announced a new feature for WhatsApp that lets you see when someone is typing a message. This feature displays a visual “..” indicator at the bottom of your chat screen. It also shows the profile picture of the person typing. This is particularly useful in group chats, in which several people send messages at the same time.
This new typing indicator has been added to the existing indicator that appears at the top of the chat screen, making it easier to tell if the person you’re chatting with is actively responding. This feature was first mentioned in October. Initially, it was tested with some users. It is now available to everyone who uses WhatsApp on iOS and Android devices. It may take some time to reach everyone.
Voicemail transcription function
WhatsApp also recently introduced a new voice note transcription feature that allows users to read voice messages instead of listening to them. WhatsApp has not provided information on whether or not the company uses AI to convert voice messages to text. However, the Meta-owned messaging app revealed that transcriptions are created on the device itself, ensuring voice messages remain end-to-end encrypted. This means that even WhatsApp cannot listen to voice messages.
