Technical News Office – TRAI has implemented new rules from October 1 to combat fake calls and messages. Now fake calls and messages arriving to users will be blocked only at the operator level. TRAI has once again launched a major attack on fraudsters and blocked over 18 lakh mobile numbers and 680 entities in the last 45 days. The telecom regulator shared this information from its X handle. The telecom regulator said in its post that instructions have been given to service providers to take strict action against spammers. For this reason, 680 entities have been blacklisted in the last 45 days. Besides, 18 lakh mobile number services have been stopped.
More than 1 crore numbers have been deactivated
Even before this, the telecom regulator had blocked thousands of mobile phone numbers due to their involvement in fraudulent activities. So far, the telecom regulator has taken action against over a million mobile numbers and terminated their services. Last month also, the telecom regulator, showing strictness, had blocked 3.5 lakh mobile numbers. DoT and TRAI have been working together for a long time to provide spam-free quality of service to users. TRAI has issued strict instructions to telecom operators to block bulk connections, robocalls and pre-recorded calls. In September also, the regulator had blocked 3.5 lakh unverified SMS headers and 12 lakh content templates.
The new TRAI rule
In the rule that came into effect on October 1, the telecom regulator asked network operators to use technology to block messages containing URLs, APK links, OTT links. Users will not receive any messages containing a URL. Users will receive messages containing links only from institutions and telemarketers that have been whitelisted. Telemarketers will be able to whitelist messages containing URLs or other sensitive information such as OTP, based on message templates suggested by the regulator. Users will not receive marketing calls from organizations or telemarketers that are not whitelisted.
