After all, why did the government block 1.77 crore mobile connections and 11 million WhatsApp accounts? Know what the reason is

Technical News Office – The government has disconnected millions of mobile connections to combat fraud and spam calls. This also includes connections established using false documents or on which suspicious activity has been observed. Apart from this, four Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) working with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) have stopped 45 lakh fake international calls from reaching the Indian telecom network. Along with this, some WhatsApp accounts have also been affected.

1.77 crore mobile connections were disconnected
New telecommunications rules came into force across the country from October 1. The government has implemented these rules keeping in mind the convenience of customers. Now, to combat fraud and spam calls, the government has taken another important decision and disconnected 1.77 crore mobile connections. These were obtained using false documents.

were used in cybercrime
According to the ministry, of the disconnected mobile connections, 33.48 lakh were used to commit cybercrimes at any given time. There are 77.61 lakh connections which were against the applicable telecom rules for having a SIM card. Not only this, the government has also cracked down on phones used in cybercrime or fraudulent activities.

The WhatsApp account also affected
11 lakh bank accounts and payment wallets linked to disconnected mobile connections have been frozen. Along with this, around 11 million WhatsApp accounts have also been closed. The ministry also blocked 71 thousand points of sale, i.e. SIM agents.
