Technical News Office – As technology evolves, fraudsters and thieves are also getting smarter and continue to find new ways to deceive people. In this regard, a new incident has come to light, in which two unidentified persons have been accused of stealing Rs 2.52 lakh from an SBI ATM in Fort, Thiruvananthapuram by tampering with the cash delivery system. The Fort police have registered a case under IPC sections 406 and 420 (cheating) and are currently investigating the matter. Now the question arises: how did they do this? Let us know.
How do they steal money from ATMs?
Let us tell you that this incident took place between June 2022 and July 2023, during which these two people used several stolen or lost ATM cards to withdraw money from the SBI ATM on Padmvilas Road. To do this, he used a technique. After withdrawing the money, they would leave a note in the machine’s money delivery box. Due to this, the ATM transaction remains incomplete and the money is not deducted from the bank due to timeout error. However, it is unclear how the thieves were able to withdraw money without knowing the ATM’s PIN. For this reason, no ATM scams have been reported, as money was not deducted from any customer’s account. But there was a difference between the money deposited into the ATM and the amount withdrawn from the customer’s account.
How the Vicious Thieves Were Caught
This scam came to light when a difference was noticed between the total amount deposited at the ATM and the amount withdrawn. A bank committee first studied this discrepancy, but the reason could not be found. As no evidence or clues were found, the committee also expressed its suspicions about the bank employees.
However, later when the investigation team reviewed the CCTV footage, two suspects were identified and it was found that they had used several stolen cards. The footage showed they both frequented the ATM and he admitted they had used several stolen or lost ATM cards. After this, SBI officials filed a report with the Fort police and also shared the photographs of the suspects.
