McAfee’s research team spotted these apps on the Play Store. These apps have been downloaded by around 8 million or 80 lakh users, however, these apps will still be installed on the phones of millions of users. In such a situation, they should be uninstalled immediately.

Why is it dangerous?
These fake loan apps are dangerous because when installed on users’ phones, they ask for various permissions including access to phone, calls, messages, camera, microphone, location, etc. Under duress of borrowing, users give full permissions to these apps on their phone, after which their data is stolen. The security company claims that these apps are based on a common framework and code, through which they can steal the OTP i.e. one-time password of the user’s phone.

Apart from this, these apps are designed in such a way that they can bypass Google security. This is the reason why despite Google Play Protect they are listed on the Play Store. Many users have also complained about these apps on Google Play Store. Hackers also threaten users through these apps by stealing photos from their smartphones and making changes to them.
