Australia will soon ban social media users aged 16 or under. A policy has been developed here which aims to prevent young people from taking risks online. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced that the government was implementing a policy to protect the mental health of the country’s children. This decision is quite strict. The government is preparing to implement it by next year. Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma welcomed the move. Sharma supported this decision by the Australian government by sharing a post on his X account.

Prime Minister Albanese said social media was harming children. It is also dangerous for young people. Such content appears on social networks and misleads children and young people. The law would impose mandatory age limits on major platforms without any exemptions, making Australia’s new policy one of the strictest internationally. Platforms like Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), and YouTube will need to adopt advanced age verification methods, making things like biometrics and government IDs mandatory.

So far, no country has taken such a step by applying such strict criteria for connecting to social media platforms. After this law is implemented, it will be up to social media platforms to prevent underage users from logging into their platforms.
