Tech giant Google’s problems are getting worse in India! CCI orders to submit investigation report within 2 months, know what the problem is

Technical News Office –The Competition Commission of India (CCI) on Thursday ordered an investigation against Google and its partners for allegedly engaging in unfair business practices in listing apps that allow people to earn money by playing “games” on the Play Store. Passing its order, the Commission said the Director General was directed to investigate the matter under the provisions of Section 26(1) of the Act.

The report must be submitted within 60 days
The Commission also ordered the Director General to complete the investigation within 60 days and submit a consolidated report. Along with this, CCI has clarified that its observations in the order are prima facie and do not constitute its final decision. This order from the CCI follows the complaint from Winzo Games. The gaming app accused Google of abusing its dominant position and placing excessive emphasis on certain game categories, saying this hinders competition in the gaming industry.

Concerns Raised About Google Sideloading Warnings
The Commission, in its order, said that selectively placing DFS and Rummy apps on the Play Store gives them an unfair competitive advantage. “Obtaining direct access to end users through the Play Store gives a significant advantage to DFS and rummy apps, which could potentially harm other monetized gaming apps,” the Commission said. CCI also raised concerns about Google’s sideloading warnings displayed when users attempted to download the RMG app.

Winzo has adopted this side, everyone can download the application
Winzo claims that these warnings tarnish its image and discourage potential users from accessing its application. The regulator said in the order that Google’s dominance in the Android environment makes it imperative to evaluate its policies for anticompetitive findings. Playstore comes pre-installed on all phones running Android, the mobile operating system developed by Google. Only through this can a user download the application. CCI said that excluding non-cash gaming apps like DFS and Rummy from the Playstore is tantamount to denying them access to the market.
