Technical News Office – AThe path has become easier for Lan Musk’s Starlink in India. It is almost certain that Starlink’s satellite broadband service license application will continue in the country. Starlink has accepted the “Location and Data Security Requirements” of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). Both agree on many points related to security. This question remained in consensus for a few days.
The path to Starlink is easy
This was a big issue during Jeff Bezos’ Starlink and Kuiper’s entry into India, which has now been accepted by Starlink. The Ministry of Telecommunications has stated in its guidelines that whichever satellite company will work in India. It will have to store the data only in the country. It is worth noting that even though the Indian government has paved the way for Starlink, Starlink is yet to give its opinion on the matter.
Open paths in this case too
Starlink had also filed an application with space regulator Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center (IN-SPACe), which is said to have progressed. The report states that Starlink service is not expected to start this year. Because the services will start only after TRAI decides the rules for pricing and spectrum allocation. It is expected that TRAI will be able to decide the rules for pricing and allocation of spectrum by December.
Difficulties have increased for private operators
Jio, Airtel and Vodafone Idea have expressed their displeasure over the arrival of Starlink in India. Jio and Airtel insist on allocation of spectrum through auctions. He believes the auctions should provide a level playing field for incumbents buying spectrum and building infrastructure such as telecommunications towers. However, Starlink claims that its service is different from that of telecommunications companies.
there will be no auctions
Recently, Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said in an interview that spectrum for satellite broadband would be allocated and not auctioned. After this statement, more problems arose for Airtel and Jio, while this eased the path for Starlink.
