The government has issued the biggest alert for Microsoft Edge users, update the browser immediately, otherwise…

Technical News Office – The Indian government has issued a major security alert for Microsoft Edge users. Microsoft’s Chromium-based browser has a security issue. It has received a high security rating from the Computer Emergency Response Team of India (CERT-In). The security agency says Microsoft’s web browser has several security vulnerabilities that could prove beneficial to an attacker. With its help, an attacker can break the security of your device and steal the data present on it.

What is the security problem with Microsoft Edge?
According to the CERT-In bulletin dated October 7, 2024, these vulnerabilities exist in Microsoft Edge (based on Chromium) due to insufficient data validation in Mojo, incorrect implementation in V8, and integer overflow in the layout. A remote attacker could take advantage of these vulnerabilities by sending a specially crafted request to a targeted computer.

Which Microsoft Edge users are at risk?
If you have a version of Microsoft Edge (Chromium-based) older than 129.0.2792.79, you should update to the new secure version immediately. Edge has become very popular this year thanks to the integration of Copilot AI. The growing use of the browser makes it an easy target for hackers. If your system is still running on an older, vulnerable Edge version, follow the steps below to update to the latest version:

Click on the three-dot menu at the top right.
Go to Help & Feedback.
Click About Microsoft Edge.
Update to the latest available version.
Restart the browser.
Your system’s Edge browser will now be protected against the new security risk.
