Technical News Office,WhatsApp banned over 85 lakh accounts in India last month. The Meta-owned platform permanently bans suspicious and reported accounts and shares the information in its special reports. WhatsApp said it banned more than 16,000,000 accounts “proactively,” meaning those accounts were blocked before a user reported a policy violation. Earlier in August also, the platform had banned over 84.58 lakh accounts. WhatsApp claims to detect abuse at three stages of the account lifecycle, first at the time of registration, second during messaging and third in response to negative comments.
WhatsApp in India bans millions of accounts every month as per IT. In its latest report (November), the platform indicated that during the month of September it banned 8,584,000 accounts. The platform said 1,658,000 of these accounts were proactively banned even before any complaints from users. According to the social media platform’s monthly compliance report on the new IT rules 2021, WhatsApp received 8,161 complaints from the country and the “action” records were 97, which means WhatsApp has taken corrective action. WhatsApp also revealed that it received two orders from the country’s grievance appeal committee and that both were complied with. Although WhatsApp allows its users to report accounts, the platform also uses an on-platform abuse detection system, which can proactively detect policy violations. As per existing rules, WhatsApp receives complaints from users via email sent to [email protected] and via mail sent to the Grievance Officer in India via post.
