Technical News Office – Zomato has launched a new feature for millions of users, which will reduce food waste due to canceled orders. In fact, the company has launched a feature called “Food Rescue,” which will allow users to purchase canceled orders from nearby restaurants at a discounted price for a limited time. Zomato claims that with this feature, customers will be able to immediately receive canceled orders in fresh and undamaged packaging. However, this feature will not be available on perishable products like ice cream or shakes.
Zomato’s Food Rescue Feature
A Zomato blog post states that recently canceled orders will be visible on the app to customers within a 3-kilometre radius of the delivery partner. These orders will only be available for a few minutes and only nearby customers will be able to claim them. If the order has already been paid online, the amount paid by the new customer will be shared between the Restaurant and Zomato. The platform will only retain government taxes.
Restaurants and delivery partners will benefit
The company claims that 99.9 percent of restaurant partners are willing to participate in this initiative. Through this feature, they will receive compensation for canceled orders, as well as a portion of the amount paid by the new customer. Apart from this, the delivery partner will be reimbursed for the full travel costs.
Steps to Avoid Misuse of Features
To prevent misuse of this feature, Zomato has decided to charge 100% of the cancellation fees from the customer. Additionally, this feature will not work on certain products like ice cream, shakes, smoothies, etc. Additionally, vegetarian customers will not see non-vegetarian orders. The “Food Rescue” feature will not only reduce food waste but also provide customers with delicious meals at lower prices.
