A decision by TRAI will make millions of Jio, Airtel, BSNL, Vi users happy, they will just have to do this work.

Technical News Office – TRAI has issued new guidelines to all telecom operators Airtel, Jio, Vodafone Idea and BSNL, which will benefit millions of mobile users in the country. The regulator has asked telecommunications operators to upload information relating to their network coverage to the website. This instruction from TRAI is part of the new Quality of Service (QoS) which will be implemented from October 1, 2024. This decision from TRAI will help users in choosing their telecom operator.

The new TRAI guidelines
In its guidelines, TRAI has directed telecom operators that every wireless access service provider shall publish the geospatial coverage map on its website so that it can help users in choosing voice and broadband services without thread. Additionally, operators will also have to update it from time to time. Although telecom operators publish the network coverage map on their websites, but since it is not updated from time to time, users are not able to know exactly in which area the signal strength is good when choosing the operator.

Focus on quality of service
The telecommunications regulator said that network coverage is very important for the quality of service of telecom operators. No user can get better quality service in an uncovered area. In such a situation, it will be very important for telecom operators to publish the details of geospatial coverage of services on their website. This directive from TRAI is addressed to all wireless service providers.

Currently, except Airtel and Jio, all telecom operators offer 2G, 3G and 4G coverage to users. Jio and Airtel provide 5G service to users. At the same time, BSNL is yet to commercially launch the 4G service. According to TRAI guidelines, it is necessary to mention in the network coverage map whether 5G/4G/3G/2G coverage is available there or not. Operators can disclose their base station location if they wish, but this is optional.

122 million users have benefited
TRAI has set a deadline of April 1, 2025 to follow this directive. In addition to specifying the network coverage area, telecom operators have also been asked to provide a user feedback button on the website, so that users can give their feedback on the network coverage. This guideline of TRAI can prove beneficial for 122 crore mobile consumers of the country.
